Martyred for India

Sonu Jangra, Juglan village in Hisar district, Haryana

Sonu Jangra, a brave soldier from Juglan village in Hisar district, Haryana, was martyred in an encounter with terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir. On the night of March 26, while he was posted at a security post in one of the districts of Kashmir, terrorists launched an attack. During the firing, a bullet hit Sonu in the head, leading to his supreme sacrifice for the nation.

Sonu’s maternal uncle, Dalbir Singh, shared that Sonu had visited the village just 20 days earlier. His previous posting was in Chandigarh, and while being transferred to Kashmir, he had received 10 days of leave, during which he came home. Sonu was only 26 years old, and his family had recently started discussions about his marriage. Sonu had told them that once he was transferred from Jammu and Kashmir to another region, he would get married. However, on Sunday night around 1:15 a.m., the family received the heartbreaking news that Sonu had been martyred while defending the border.

Sonu lost his father when he was just 8 years old. After that, he was adopted by his maternal grandparents (nana-nani). His mother later remarried. Sonu’s grandparents had seven daughters but no son, so they raised him like their own son. Sadly, his grandparents also passed away a few years ago. As he had no real maternal uncle, Sonu began living with Dalbir Singh’s family, who treated him as their own.

At the time of his martyrdom, Sonu was posted in Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir. Early in the morning, Army personnel Havildar Shiv Singh and Signalman Amar Yadav brought the martyr’s mortal remains to his village. As the body arrived, villagers and family members chanted slogans of “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” and “Shaheed Sonu Jangra Amar Rahe”.

The last rites were performed in his native village. People from nearby areas, administrative and army officials, as well as MLA Jogi Ram Sihag, attended the funeral to pay their respects. Sonu was cremated with full state and military honors, and his mother lit the funeral pyre of her beloved son.

When the tricolor-wrapped coffin of Martyr Sonu Jangra reached home, his mother broke down in grief, crying uncontrollably. Seeing her in such pain brought tears to everyone’s eyes. As Sonu had been raised in his maternal village, everyone there considered him their nephew, and that’s why his funeral was held in the same village.

Sonu Jangra sacrificed his life defending the motherland, and his bravery will be remembered forever. The entire nation salutes this great warrior who laid down his life for India.
